It's been. a nightmare as my Wacom tablet also ceased to work (High bloody Sierra).

Anyway - I had NEVER thought to re-scan my ink work first, and having done so at 600dpi not 300dpi, the results are incredible.

I always scanned my work at 300dpi and was always warned not to go higher as the OLD trace system didn't like anything too high-res. It actually affected the outcome - whereas increasing the dpi on the original scan in Illustrator CC 18 has improved the trace massively.

Here is the result of tonight's tracing after a re-scan at 600dpi, vs its original pen and ink drawing.
*trust me, the method works - though screen shots won't show up in comments!*

As you can see, this is a piece with several different lettering styles of varying complexity and widths, which Image Trace has thus far failed to render with any sort of sensitivity, despite hours of experimentation.

I wish I'd known 4 years ago that a higher resolution scan would be the solution!
Thanks Barbara, Monika et al.

x

Sarah J Colemanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12023898799415295499noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15002944.post-52828662107845095252017-12-21T16:35:03.308+00:002017-12-21T16:35:03.308+00:00Thanks to Sarah and the Team for producing such a ...Thanks to Sarah and the Team for producing such a wonderful tree for us. I could never resist running up the slopey wall outside what used to be the ' crèche ' and I was taught to swim there by the one and only Mrs Padbury, who was a fantastic teacher, but used to scare the shit out of me, for some reason we were never allowed to wipe the chlorine tainted water from our eyes and If we were caught doing so we were berated with a " use the windscreen wipers!!! " which meant we should blink the stinging concoction from our bloodshot retinas, rather than wipe them. Used to spend huge amounts of time there aimlessly treading water in my pyjamas and retrieving drowning rubber bricks, why I would want or need to rescue a brick was beyond me then and still mystifies me now. Good times were had there, and I'll never forget the time I I found a dead snake round the back, near the car park, and it stank, but that is another story!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14829303264675594926noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15002944.post-23070539936011197392016-02-17T18:21:02.327+00:002016-02-17T18:21:02.327+00:00That's serious stuff right there.
